Today, the film and the punch remain intrinsically connected, especially during the holiday season.

Oh, yes. It is through that film that even I, who is not even remotely interested in any alcoholic beverage, kind of knows what it is.
By the way ... the movie has got quite a history. In fact there are two, one from 1934 (also with Hans Rühmann), and the famous one from 1944.
But it gets even more confusing. We once attended a reading by an author from Leipzig, Andreas Reimann. (That linked radio programme is worth a listen!) He said, his grand father wrote the novel Die Feuerzangenbowle, together with Friedrich Spoerl but wanted to avoid public attention during the Nazi times (he was already on watch as he had signed a contract to write a parody of Mein Kampf ...), so he suggesteded to let Spoerl be the only author on record and to split royalties 50/50. At one time they fell out and until today the novel is marketed as by Spoerl only. There seem to be some legal actions, which seem to be still meandering or not going on at all, I do not know. On the Hans Reimann homepage there is a letter where Spoerl's heir states that Reimann's heirs should get 50%.
This sure would be a worthy and interesting for a scientific research with some possible public interest. I would be really interested.

My library has it. If only I could go there and borrow it. But that means more than an hour ride by train, which I want to avoid right now. It is also mentioned on the Hans Reimann homepage. But as I have not read it yet, I cannot know what story it does exactly tell, based on which sources.

This means that the channel allows other channels to source their public posts and to automatically repost them and they will appear to be posted by that channel. There is an app for that. /sources
This seems to be undocumented, I am going to write a tutorial. Thanks for the question.
This is a really interesting functionality, very powerful for automated message distribution.

Can anyone tell me what is the benefit of using #Zap, #Osada, #Misty, #Redmatrix, or (new) #Roadhouse (or other parts of the ZOTlabs-suite) instead of Hubzilla - other than reduced complexity?

As far as I can see from https://zotlabs.org/page/zotlabs/comparison+hubzilla+zap, they use the same protocol (#ZOT) look the same, and just have less functionality (no additional benefits). I wonder why they were created as seperate tools - rather than as one software with optional modules (or module packages) that you can activate or not.

Are they even different networks (they use ZOT, too, so it should be one network...), or just differently named doors of various sizes into the same virtual space?

Since the Hubzilla Start shutdown is imminent, I deployed a new Hubzilla instance and cloned my channel to it. The magic of Zot made this process pretty seamless. What was not seamless was updating my Docker Compose system to use Debian Buster and Traefik v2 and refactoring the configuration using a single environment variable file.

I've been out of the loop for a while, so if there is an "official" Hubzilla Docker image I can try contributing to that as well.

@Haakon Meland Eriksen (Parlementum) Thanks for the link. His looks much more comprehensive, but I do notice a few little things to improve based on mine (for example, sSMTP is no longer maintained and so it is recommended to use mSMTP instead).

Also, I just noticed some major flaws in the structure of mine that I am trying to fix right now. It's difficult to test this stuff. For instance, it's not clear how federation is affected if you keep updating the location_hash for the same domain.

I fixed the problems, so it should work for anyone now. One of the goals is to make the deployment as idempotent as possible. If you run docker-compose up the first time it should bootstrap the instance into a working state, and if you run it again it should not break anything.

It would be great if someone was able to test it independently and provide feedback.

Hi

Suppose I have a main channel with a gallery and a wiki, and a cloned channel.
Each time I add an image to the gallery or edit a page on the wiki, on the main channel, it's synched with the clone. Perfect.

But suppose now that the main channel is down.

What happen if I add an image or edit a wiki page on a cloned channel while main channel is down? Does it synch with others clones? Will it synch with the main channel when it is up?

It has been a wild and fun development cycle with many challenges. Here is a brief summary of the most notable changes:

Zot6 Protocol
Zot6 has been implemented as the primary messaging protocol in Hubzilla. Most work in this development cycle has gone into this project. What you will notice is that the network field in your connections list will turn from zot to zot6 as soon as your contacts' hubs will be upgraded.

Direct messages
Direct messages are messages that are addressed to one or more single connections. They are accessible from your network stream. A direct messages filter has been added to the stream filters widget for quick access. The Mail app has been deprecated in favor of direct messages.

Mail app moved to addons
There is no concept of private mail in the zot6 protocol. If you require access to your legacy mail, you will need to ask your hub admin to install the mail addon. This will allow you to install the legacy Mail app.

Forums
The way we interact with forums has changed. To post to a forum you can now simply select a forum from the ACL selector.

Polls
Hubzilla now has support for polls with multiple options. This feature is compatible with activitypub polls and is available directly from the post editor. The vote feature has been deprecated in favor of polls.

Notifications
Notifications have been rewritten to implement server sent events. It is required to install the SSE addon to receive real time notifications. Also some useful new features were added.

Due to the upgrade to the zot6 protocol there are some drawbacks
- Sourced RSS feeds will not federate via zot6 unless the option "Resend posts with this channel as author" is selected. The authors are not valid actors.
- Anonymous comments will not federate via zot6. The authors are not valid actors.
- Community tagging has been disabled. It will be re-enabled when it is agreed upon how to implement it for compatibility with other projects.
- The chess addon has been moved to addons-unsupported until it will be ported to the ActivityStreams2 data format.
- Channel clones at hubs which are at Hubzilla version < 4.7.4 will be disconnected until the clone hubs will be updated.

How to upgrade?

- create a backup
- execute util/udall from the terminal
- make sure all DB updates (especially 1236) have been successfully applied
- execute php util/z6convert.php dry-run from the terminal for a dry run (no data will be modified with this option)
- execute php util/z6convert.php from the terminal (this will take a while...)
