!!Zotlabs|Hubzilla Development phpunit 7 has reached EOL a while ago and started throwing errors. I updated phpunit to version 9 today. Version 9 is not compatible with phpunit/dbunit (which is abandoned) anymore. This means that tests which envolve db queries will not work anymore.

Does anyone know about a decent replacement for dbunit?

Yes, DBUnit got deprecated shortly after I discovered it unfortunately. When I remember it correctly the statement of the maintainer was that fixture management should be in the realm of the project as a custom and project specific solution.
I had played with some ideas about fixtures management, but never figured really out what they should look like for us. In the end I experimented with full database dumps from a demo instance I was also playing with for end2end tests, but it was never maintainable. I haven't really recovered from that frustration. Was also not able to add more unit tests for the legacy code base and unfortunately haven't done much since then.
