Among a discussion of German hubzilla users came up the question:
Would it be a good idea that a non profit association could offer to run e.g. Hubzilla hubs or even supply the facilities to run powerful Servers with the needed bandwidth, located even in own rooms, for other non profit organizations?
This question has many aspects, besides of the technicality feasibility.
One thought is: if the software developers, promoters, administrators and software users are guided by certain ethic principles, the actually server owner=hoster should also not just deal out of commercial reasons.
This powerful Servers I talking about are technicality especially needed for large groups, or for an organization which wants to stay in contact with a lot of followers in the fediverse.
So here is an other thought also: If you want to have open democratic and transparent structures how to deal with DATA, it may be better to organize things within a non profited organization which has a statute committed to e. g. common welfare instead of leave things to individuals, who can change their mind and action from one second to an other...
In the framework of this kind of non profit organization could also in the long term finally a support for the software developers be accomplished.
This is all theory right now, but even so, maybe somebody here want to share some thoughts about it
